Nine stops, each graded for legs and lungs

Updated 8 November 2026

Komodo park stops by phinisi: nine places on the three Soe Besar Vanrei routes, from the short Kelor hill to the Padar ridge and the Komodo ranger walk. Each page grades the effort, says who can stay aboard and names the snorkel conditions.

The stops on the three routes

Nine stops have a page. Kelor opens day one on every route with a short hill walk of 15 to 30 minutes. Kalong follows at dusk and is watched from the deck. On day two, Padar is an optional climb, Pink Beach is a snorkel and a swim, and Komodo is the ranger-led walk.

The 3D2N and 4D3N add Manta Point and Taka Makassar on day two. Day three of the 3D2N goes to Sebayur or Kanawa, and the 4D3N visits both, with Gili Lawa between them.

Wildlife is observed here, never promised. The 2D1N and 4D3N routes are examples, and the order is agreed with the captain.

Stops compared in one table

The table that follows sets the stops side by side: effort, typical time, and conditions. Read the effort column first if the party includes anyone who finds stairs, slopes or currents difficult.

  • Skip or stay aboard: Padar, Komodo, Manta Point.
  • Short: Kelor, Taka Makassar.
  • Easy: Pink Beach, Sebayur, Kanawa.
  • From the deck: Kalong.

Nothing on the list is a sprint, and no stop asks the whole party to do the same thing at the same hour. The longest walk is the Komodo trail, and its short loop is the one to ask the ranger for. The hardest swim is Manta Point, where the current is strong and the snorkel is guided. Everything else is a beach, a sandbar, a shallow reef or a view from the rail, which suits a grandparent who prefers to keep an eye on the youngest from the deck.

Caveat: tide, weather and the captain's call can reorder a day. Distances are not given here.

Stops named but not paged

Three places appear in the itineraries without a page of their own. Manjarite is a snorkel stop on day one, after Kelor. Gili Lawa is a walk on day three of the 4D3N. Bidadari is the last stop on day four, before the harbour.

Rinca is not on a route here. Any swap for Komodo would be agreed with the captain and is not promised.

Each page is built the same way: numbers first, then who can stay aboard, then the conditions in the sea or on the path. Where a number is not published, the page says so.
