Questions parents and grandparents send us first
Updated 8 November 2026
Forty-five questions about Soe Besar Vanrei from parents and grandparents, answered in six groups: the plan, cabins and stairs, children and grandparents, prices, days and stops, and booking, weather and safety. Each answer matches the page that holds the full facts.
The questions parents send us first
These questions reach us on WhatsApp before a deposit, and they arrive in much the same order every time. Which plan suits a family of three generations? Which cabin spares a grandparent the stairs? What do the children pay, and what happens if someone falls ill at sea?
The replies are kept short because each one points to a page that goes deeper. Where a fact is not published, the reply says so and offers you an answer in writing instead. We would rather give you a plain no than a soft maybe. One more thing worth knowing: the boat is a 31 m phinisi with seven cabins, and every answer below is about that boat and no other.
Forty-five replies sorted into six groups
Groups run in the order a family decides things.
- Which plan fits the family: seven replies on charter or cabins, size, the extra bed and celebrations.
- Cabins, beds and stairs: eight replies on cabin types, bathrooms, beds, Wi-Fi and access.
- Children and grandparents: eight replies on fares, life jackets, food, seasickness and medical care.
- Prices and what they cover: seven replies on charter and seat prices, inclusions and 2027.
- Days, stops and getting there: seven replies on routes, pickup, return and flights.
- Booking, paying, weather and safety: eight replies on dates, deposit, payment, cancellation and safety.
Prices are the 2026 card dated 8 November 2026. For anything not answered here, ask us on WhatsApp.

Are there life jackets in children's sizes?
Life jackets are on board. Neither their number nor their sizes are published, so we confirm child sizes in writing from each child's age and weight on the pre-departure form. The harbour authority requires a life jacket for every passenger and a safety demonstration.

Pick April to June or October, sit in the open air, watch the horizon, and bring your own tablets or patches. Ask a doctor about the dose. A cabin on the main or lower deck sits lower in the hull. No stabilizer is listed for this boat, so we promise none.
What happens in a medical emergency at sea, and where is the nearest hospital?
The boat's crew gives first aid, and if needed the captain calls Basarnas, the search and rescue agency. Carry insurance with evacuation cover.
Can grandparents skip Padar and still see the park?

Yes, a child shares a parent's cabin. A third guest sleeps only in the Master Suite Ocean, on its extra bed. The Sharing Cabin sleeps four on two bunk beds. On the open trip it is sold by the bunk, so other guests can share it unless your party fills it.
What does a day aboard look like with three generations?

Yes, the 3D2N starts and ends in Labuan Bajo. Day 1 takes in Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong. Day 2 covers Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Manta Point and Taka Makassar. Day 3 is Sebayur or Kanawa. There is no leg to Lombok.

Sixteen guests sleep in the seven cabins. The seventeenth bed is the extra bed in the Master Suite Ocean, for a third guest in that cabin. A larger party needs a second boat.
